Advent Preparation

Yesterday we made an advent calendar. We used miniature envelopes (12 for $2.99 at Hobby Lobby) stamped with green stars and decorated with red glitter. Each envelope will hold an advent activity on a white card. This flexible format allows for some parental reorganization of activities depending on the Mama's mood, the weather and available supplies.

I'll post the list of our 24 activities when I finish making them up. In the interim I am surfing the web for ideas and trying to remember childhood family traditions to include. If you have any ideas, please share!

Love it! I have been wanting to do something like this for years now. I recently saw something similar in Better Homes and Gardens and got inspired...now if only I can make it happen! Looks like you and the kids had some awesome creative fun too! I miss you!!!

I love this! I need to do something that will keep me accountable to do all the fun things I have swimming around in my head, so maybe this is the answer! As far as ideas, I know this time of year we try very hard to keep the "all about me and what I get for Christmas" mentality down for David. We try to do a lot of stuff for others. We participate in local charities and let David pick out the stuff to give. We clean out all of our toys and he decides what to give away to kids who might not have any toys (not just the broken ones, this includes things he likes but do not rank as his favorites). We chose a simple dessert (like tree shaped rice "kispies") and take time to write cards for some of our neighbors. Also, this year our elf is going to quiz the boys each day with questions about why we celebrate Christmas. I can't wait to get ideas from your list!!! So glad you're back to blogging :)!!!

How about making clove oranges? They smell so good, and Claire is probably old enough to help.

I've been thinking about doing an advent calendar too. Or maybe just the 12 days of Christmas. Half the idea scrounging. :)

Love the idea of cards to hold each surprise!
