ISO: Read Aloud

I'm looking for suggestions for a read aloud book for Clare. You know...one of those snuggle up on the couch, no pictures, read a chapter a day kind of stories that won't freak her out and that she'll understand. If you have an idea, let me know.

I am going to read to Fordham The Boxcar Children... also the Adventures of Miss Piggle Wiggle (something like that I remember from my childhood... I think its age appropriate). :)

A few that we have read to Wylie...
Pippi Longstocking
The Wind in the Willows
Peter and the Starcatchers
The Adventures of Rip Van Winkle
Gulliver's Travels

I remember as a child my father reading poetry to me. Not the flowery kind but things like "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere" and Shakespeare.
Let me know what you find.

an audio tape or something you would read to her?

They have a bunch of audio CDs at the library, but I am thinking that is not what you are talking about...

We just got Poppleton and Friends to start reading with Nate. The series is by Cynthia Rylant.
